Welcome to the Children’s OT Project
I really hope this blog becomes a little like your home for trauma informed, pediatric occupational therapy and early childhood mental health. It will be the place that I share my thoughts, ideas, interesting research, and tools and tips for all of you who are working with young children and families.
I founded this project for a few reasons. I’m a pediatric OT and have spent my career at the intersection of early childhood mental health and early education. Through my mental health work I’ve learned a lot about how early childhood trauma impacts the nervous system, child development, behavior and learning. In my education work, I’ve learned a lot about what it takes for a preschooler who is highly stressed to do well in a classroom. Through all of my work, I’ve learned how crucial it is for providers to allow caregivers to be the ones leading the way in their own children’s healing in whatever ways they can.
As the years have gone by, I’ve been asked to share my thoughts and ideas about cases, about how occupational therapists can integrate early childhood mental health concepts into their work, about how teachers can implement sensory strategies in their classrooms and all kinds of other brilliant questions.
This project is a place to gather all that I’ve learned so far and all that I’ll continue to learn as I work with young children, mentor other therapists, to share with you. I really, really hope it will also be a place to learn from each of you!
Let’s stay connected!
Subscribing to my email list is the best way to keep in touch. Of course I’ll never share your information and I’ll only get in touch when I have something helpful to share!
